Anselmo does not give an immobile portrayal of nature but direct presentation of the forces which give it life, invisible forces inherent to existing within the materials themselves. Starting with the assumption that all bodies, including the human being, are subject to the energy of the magnetic, electric and gravitational fields, he conceives a work of art as being an element which participates in a certain contingent and transient situation of which he
reveals the constituent principles. He is not searching for the eternal moment in the perfection of form, but for an extemporaneous moment in the constant transformation of all things. In this sense he becomes a “provoker of
phenomena”, an agent capable of arousing matter, not by imposing his own order upon it but by bringing out the forces present in the natural system. This work, which consists of a great triangular block of granite facing north, like the compass to be found at its extremity, is the materialization of magnetic force and shows how the monolithic body of a piece of stone is influenced by invisible agents capable of altering its apparent stability. The energy is blocked in precarious equilibrium, and one feels a tension that is destined to change as it follows the flow of life.
