Made up of very short sequences, the thirteen videos produced in 2005 are micro-tales of minimal, almost imperceptible events. Minor chance events that upset their own ordinary nature. All she uses is a fixed camera and simple, though extremely effective tools, such as off-screen noises which anticipate the images. The pace of Cattaneo’s videos is that of little witticisms that take the viewer by surprise. All in all, the artist seems to say, every thing is what we do with it: the silhouette of a finger against the light can outline a mountain landscape; two capers in a plate can tell of a romantic kiss; an electric wire can become a dangerous snake.
Alice Cattaneo was born in Milan 27 February, 1976. She completed her studies at the Scuola Superiore d’Arte Applicata of Castello Sforzesco, and continued her education ...
