Tavole d'accertamento Gorgonia

Private collection, Italy
Between 1958 and 1960 Manzoni prepared a series of what he called the Tavole d’accertamento. These were panels in which he brought together various of his works, including the small three-dimensional Achromes, to be publish as lithographs and collected in folders conceived as small portable museums of his works. The operation recalls Marcel Duchamp’s Boîte-en-valise [Box in a Suitcase, 1941; Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna, Rome; Collection Peggy Guggenheim, Venice], containing miniature replicas, photographs and printed reproductions of his favorite works. After participating with the Gorgon group in the Nove tendencije exhibition in Zagreb, in 1961 Manzoni designed a first version of these Tavole d''accertamento for the group’s magazine. The definitive version was published in Milan by Vanni Scheiwiller in October 1961 and then in October 1962. It included works conceived separately between 1958 and 1960: two maps (Ireland, Iceland), two Alphabets, two Finger Prints of his left thumb and right thumb, a Line, the imprints of his left hand and his right hand.
