Luciano Romano moved among set reportages, architecture and artistic performance, and in 1985 became the official photographer of San Carlo Theatre. His experience with the symbolic use of theatrical light and his taste for composition, suggested by his studies of architecture, finalized in 1991, when he began his collaboration with Franco Maria Ricci, a publisher of art magazines, for whom he illustrated more than thirty books. He plans his images in a architectural fashion, starting from a sharp observation of reality and adding theoretic and conceptual elements. His last work, Vedrai andrà tutto bene (You’ll see, everything is going to be all right), which has been commissioned by Napoli Teatro Festival Italia, captures an extemporaneous performance that took place in the street, where actors and common people hugged each other to express the wish to heal a deep rift caused by long months of emergency due to waste crisis and camorra. The pictures are surreal, artificial and peaceful at the same time; their subjects are as still as statues while hugging half submerged in the sea in front of Palazzo Donn’Anna.
