She met the art of photography at the end of the Seventies, when she founded the Associazione Ricerca Aperta (Open Research Association) together with Gianni Rollin and a group of Neapolitan photographers. She started to experiment in the dark room for Rollin, then she got off to the reportage and social photography. She worked on one project for ten years: a meticulous work of knowledge and the construction of stories through images, which actually represents her key feature. She captures with her camera the old town area of “ La Sanità”, its alleys, houses and people, interiors and exteriors, day and night, from the cradle to the grave. Between the Eighties and the Nineties, she devoted herself to the dimension of folk celebration, quoting but in the meantime straying from the socio-anthropological repertoire: her selective focus allows the imagination to be grafted on reality giving the stories sense and substance. That goes for Vite concluse (Ended lives), the photographic work regarding “Terra Murata”, the Bourbon prison in Procida. The same goes for the Mediterranean sea. From 1997 to 2000, she shared her nights with the fishermen, offshore between Procida and the Gulf of Pozzuoli. Survival becomes the possibility to make up everyday gestures, to build up a blind time populated by stories, melting bodies and water, lives and things into sparks of light.
