As freelance press photographer, he has been documenting the struggles of social and political movements in Naples and in the rest of the World since the Seventies, working for both Italian and foreign press. He published a book and worked on a touring exhibition about the human conditions on the fringe of reality: the youth protest, the Neapolitan factories and the unemployed, the No-global movement. They were both titled Un altro mondo è possibile (Another world is possible) (Another world is possible). His full-frontal black and white style, together with the trust and empathy of the portrayed subject are the instruments appointed to carry on a visual research concerning minorities. For thirty years, he has hung around with the femminielli from via Toledo, Rettifilo and Sanità and has captured them into images: Res and Bis - a double thing - a distinctively Neapolitan phenomenon deriving from a folk tradition which has been testified even by Virgil and for this reason something different from the common transsexual prostitutes who are typical of the contemporary metropolis. They strike a pose, with an impudent look directly into the camera, which develops into a rough and unaffected snap: the pressing promiscuity of these photos could seem to come out from the avant-garde magazines of the late Nineties, like I-D or The Face, or to emerge from the Young British Artists’ sensation. Yet, it’s part of the history and life of Naples.
