ANISH KAPOOR
Moon Shadow
2005
Courtesy :
Anish Kapoor’s work is suspended between a dramatization of art actions with a Western matrix and the meditative strain of the Oriental tradition. A constant feature of the artist’s practice is the process of transformation of matter, continually distorted in the literal sense of the term, being deprived of a predetermined form. Kapoor seems to prepare the viewer for the revelation of an inner apparition, innate in matter, an original development of the work which announces the solemn staging of a profound and hidden reality; an exaltation of the infinite, of the mystery, which is charged with a spiritual and transcendent value. His is a true poetic of the void and solid, as in the Baroque: sinuous forms capture the viewer’s attention by creating open-ended structures, suspended between material and immaterial, male and female, out of respect for the dualism from which, as the artist loves to repeat, all form springs.
