From April 24 to May 25, 2009 the MADRE will host the exhibition Urban Superstar, a curatorial project by Napoli COMICON. This independent exhibition, organized in collaboration with the Soprintendenza al Polo Museale, Naples, - an historic partner of the International Comics Show – has been welcomed by the Madre as a convenient tool to promote the contamination between art and youth creativity, music and new languages, inaugurated some time ago with the Madrenalina and Apemadre events held at the “Madre & Vino” bar-cafeteria of the museum.
On show are the latest trends of youth and urban cultures, currents such as street art, skate art, pop surrealism, lowbrow, poster art, alongside art-toys, a phenomenon promoted two years ago by the MondoPOP International Gallery of Roma and the XL magazine.
David Vecchiato, in his double capacity of artist and curator, will present the latest works by International Urban Art celebrities, his colleagues and friends, including Gary Baseman, Boris Hoppek, Shag, Ian Stevenson, Gary Taxali, Jon Burgerman, Jim Avignon, Glenn Barr, Bigfoot, Naoshi, Ciou, Sergio Mora, Nathan Jurevicius, Joe Ledbetter .
On the Italian side, Roman artist Simone Legno aka Tokidoki will exhibit alongside artists that have been on the underground art scene in the past fifteen years: AlePOP, Allegra Corbo, Fupete, Licia Viero, Scarful, together with younger artists such as Sten and Lex, Cesko, El Gato Chimney, Serpeinseno, and Zelda Bomba, a naturalized Italian citizen born in Paris.
Urban Superstar will also feature large installations by Junko Mizuno, Mijn Schatje and Tokidoki from the Fornarina collection, that were on display at the Urban Beauty Show held at the Louvre Museum in Paris. Fornarina has been one of the first International brands to invest in new artistic currents and promote its exponents.
